This Student’s Mugshot Is So Fierce, Twitter Is Demanding A Makeup Tutorial

19-year-old Marshala Perkins had at least a little bit of luck on her side when she was arrested last February: her makeup looked BANGIN.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce student is a self-taught makeup artist who told As/Is that she learned off YouTube. “When I was younger my parents were really strict so I spent a lot of time in the house,” she told As/Is. “I just found YouTube and started watching makeup videos.”

That fateful day in February, Perkins had just demonstrated a ~look~ on Facebook Live when some friends invited her out. As the teen was getting into her car outside of her dorm, two Hunt County police officers approached her.

“[One officer] asked me for my handicap sticker because I was in a handicap spot,” Marshala said, according to BuzzFeed News, adding that her mother whom she often drove around was handicap. “I gave it to him and he brought it back, said everything was clear.”

Rather than leaving, one of the cops told Perkins, “It smells like weed in here” and asked the teenager to get out of her car. Police found were two grams of weed, which she’d been planning on smoking with her friends. “And so I went to jail for it with my beat face.”

Several weeks later, Perkins’ mugshot would be posted to Twitter account @mugshotbaes, where it would then be snagged by Twitter account @proletariatitty and go massively viral, racking up over 280,000 likes and 61,000 retweets in just a week and a half. “We need a tutorial! Free her!” reads the caption.

“At first I was embarrassed because that’s not really something that you want to be broadcasted,” Perkins said, according to BuzzFeed News. “But then when I saw all the support for me with my face beat—because makeup is something that I really wanted to do—I was like ‘Okay!’ I wasn’t feeling too bad about it.”

And the support truly was unparalleled.

Though some were simply flabbergasted by Perkins’ beauty, most demanded a tutorial and list of products used.

Perkins plans on doing a full YouTube video tutorial in the near future, but shared a list of products used to her Facebook in the meantime.

Perkins also revealed that this was the first time she has been arrested. The teenager was charged with possession of marijuana, held overnight in jail, and ordered to pay $2,000 in court fees during her six-month probation period.

Unfortunately, Perkins’ arrest lead to her being fired from her part-time job from Walmart. Between lacking funds for the rest of the school semester and trying to help her mother through her battle with breast cancer, the teen was forced to take a leave of absence from school. According to BuzzFeed News, Perkins is “currently working full-time as a security officer and taking makeup clients on the side.”

“It’s been really hard trying to get a job because of my background now. A lot of people don’t want to hire people with marijuana on their background,” the teen told the publication. In other words, help a sister out.
