Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are going through perhaps one of the ugliest celebrity divorces in recent years, with many of the sad details leaked to the press. It seems they both physically abused each other and physically abused themselves with massive amounts of alcohol and drug use. There’s very little about the situation to amuse, even if it’s hard not to follow along.
And people have been following along avidly. That’s why as soon as this courtroom sketch of Depp testifying was released it spread across Twitter like wildfire. Finally, something to laugh about! Because whatever true terrible things you can say about Johnny Depp, he does not look like this:

What’s going on here, exactly? This is supposedly another sketch, which is slightly better:

But not much.
Courtroom sketch artists probably aren’t a high-demand career. That might be why they always look so bonkers, because it’s just a side gig and no one is that great at it. But nothing really explains anyone looking at Johnny Depp and seeing… that.
Twitter is at least enjoying making a mockery of the Johnny Depp courtroom sketch. I hope these jokes help you laugh about this haunted image:

Johnny Depp (court sketch). You can’t do this to Johnny Depp’s face and expect some binders in the background to help. It’s like smashing a Ming vase and posing with the pieces in front of a magazine rack. pic.twitter.com/3cuKhc98Sk
