Kylie Jenner is drawing frustrations from fans and critics alike after she shared a link to a GoFundMe for her friend and makeup artist Samuel Rauda.
Rauda was in a car accident earlier this month and had to undergo surgery, according to a GoFundMe created by his family to raise money to cover his medical expenses.
Jenner shared a link to the fundraiser on her Instagram and donated $5000 of her own money. While this would be considered a generous donation from most people and the reality star certainly brought attention to the campaign with her mention, folks have expressed annoyance with Jenner’s response.
The internet’s scolding of the supposed billionaire led her to trend on Twitter over the weekend, as people questioned why Jenner would only give what amounts to pennies for her and expect random strangers struggling through the pandemic to cough up the rest.
The whole thing is particularly grating when one of the arguments against a wealth tax on those with absurd amounts of money is the completely mistaken claim that those people will step up and do the right thing with their money when they are called upon. That’s never been true for most, and Jenner appears to have proven it’s not true in her case, either.
And while nobody’s surprised, nobody’s exactly thrilled about it either.
