Remember Mean Girls? The iconic ’00s movie that showed just how awkward and awful high school could be when a clique of, well, mean girls run the school?
It still holds up, and on repeated viewings, you’re likely to find something that you missed.
One TikToker, Sabrina Alease, thinks she’s hit on a new theory that might explain what set the whole Janis-Regina feud in motion.
And, if you buy her explanation, it’s as simple as mixing up a word.

So, in short, Janis’ hatred of Regina comes from the fact that Regina spread a rumor that Janis was a lesbian. But at the end of the movie, Janis says that she’s Lebanese.
“The whole premise of the movie was based on the fact that Regina didn’t understand the difference between Lebanese and lesbian,” says Sabrina.
Sabrina spoke with BuzzFeed and said that this wasn’t the only time a Lebanese/lesbian play on words has been used—Glee has also done it, as well as Bend It Like Beckham.
