Sarah Hyland and Ariel Winter have played sisters Haley and Alex Dunphy on Modern Family for the past 11 seasons. The cast recently wrapped the final season.
The two recently proved their sisterly bond is just as strong off-screen, when Hyland stood up for Ariel Winter’s Instagram clothing choices.
Sarah Hyland posted a sweet tribute to Ariel Winter and the relationship the two have had over the years. In a slideshow, Hyland and Winter are seen posing together at the Modern Family wrap party.
Hyland captions the slideshow:
“I love these people with all my heart. 11 years together is proof you and your tv sister will start wearing the same outfit, siblings for life will be made, and you’ll forever fight over the same professor 😂 We’ll always be Dunphys and we’ll always have each other ❤️”
In the images, Hyland and Winter are both wearing similar black, sheer dresses. One Instagram user tried to shame Winter for her dress choice, but Hyland was not having it.
Other users weren’t having it either and took the opportunity to praise Winter and Hyland.
Luckily, the post had its fair share of positive comments celebrating the two actors and their show.
This isn’t the first time Winter has dealt with negative comments about her body. She joined the Modern Family cast as a child and has dealt with the scrutiny of growing up in the spotlight.
“I’ve faced body shaming and cyber bullies for about seven or eight years now that I’ve been in the spotlight,” Winter said in an interview with Shape. “At 11 years old, I started working on [Modern Family] and I was super flat and had no curves and was getting hate for that. Then overnight, my body changed and I was this curvy woman. I didn’t know how to navigate that and got so much hate for it.”

Within the past five years, Winter has faced bullying for losing weight and going through a breast reduction surgery. Last fall, Winter opened up to Good Morning America about overcoming criticism.
“I spent a lot of years trying to figure out who I wanted to be, what I wanted to look like — if I did this would people stop…if I did this would people stop,” she said. “Over the years I kind of just learned there’s nothing, with not even just body image, that you will be able to do to please everybody.”
