Disney’s ‘The Proud Family’ Is Returning With New Episodes After 14 Years

It looks like the latest show to receive the resurrection treatment will be Disney’s The Proud Family

The announcement came during the red carpet premiere of 47 Meters Down: Uncaged. Actor Tommy Davidson, who voiced father Oscar Proud, revealed that after 14 years off the air, The Proud Family would be returning.

“I forgot to tell you that The Proud Family is coming back.  It’s on one of Disney’s streaming [services],” Davidson told Where is the Buzz. “Yeah, Proud Family’s coming back. They told me not to tell you.”

The show, which first premiered in 2001 and ran until 2005, was one of the Disney Channels’ first cartoon sitcoms to showcase modern, suburban black life. The series followed Penny Proud and her family and friends as they got up to all kinds of hijinks. The show also starred a predominantly black cast and featured women of color guest stars such as Mariah Carey and Gabrielle Union.

Fans were ecstatic to hear the news that their beloved show was coming back β€” but also had questions about the fate of their favorite characters and the theme song, which was performed by Destiny’s Child and Solange.

The show will begin streaming on Disney+ in November, so get ready to meet or be reunited with Penny, Oscar, Trudy β€” and hopefully Suga Mama
