Glee is having a bit of a resurgence in the past few months, perhaps because actor Lea Michele was getting dragged for being racist and saying she’d “sh*t in a wig” that belonged to a Black actor who guest-starred on the show. Or maybe it’s because quarantine has driven us all to review old media, because we’ve run out of other things to do. Glee is one of Ryan Murphy’s super hit-or-miss shows: there are so many cringey moments, but also some pretty fun numbers. Plus, Kurt’s relationship with his dad always gets me.
And then there’s the show’s theoretical villain, Sue Sylvester, though she also got her character rehabilitated eventually. Sue was the cheerleading coach who was always trying to thwart the glee club for various reasons.
Twitter user @elmotumbokon shared a screenshot of Sue in her office, plotting, and the subtitles beneath her read, “I’m going to create an environment so toxic,” and that’s it.
For some reason, people really took off with the “I’m going to create an environment so toxic” meme. There are a lot of things that create toxicity in this world, so the image got shared over and over with all the different toxic stuff we have around us.
Then things got a bit more meta, as people blocked out words and letters. It’s one of the few things to make me laugh in a while, so please enjoy, and reflect on how good Jane Lynch was in this role.
