Alyssa Cowit is a New York City school teacher who works with kindergarteners. Over her tenure, she’s found that the things kids talk to her about are far more interesting than what most adults have to say. She started chronicling the odd comments, questions, and general funny kids quotes on an Instagram account called @livefromsnacktime, eventually turning it into a book titled I Did My Homework In My Head.
In her website’s bio, Cowit writes that she doesn’t save quotes from kids to make them seem strange, she wants to “help adults understand that children are not always acting outrageous to seek attention, but instead thinking out loud, soaking up new information, and solving problems 24/7!”
Below are some of the ways that information gets processed—through hilarious observations about the world that adults forget they used to make, too. Scroll through and remind yourself of the whimsical confusion of being a kid.
