Nearly all musicians that aren’t cis-hetero men have pondered why their music needs a qualifier. Artist Neko Case has been pushing back at the “women in music” descriptor for years and band Haim named its latest album Women in Music Pt. II, which addresses the sexism the band’s three members have encountered in the music industry.
Like the world itself, the music industry is much different to those who aren’t men.
Twitter user Stephanie Hans uncovered an incredible Facebook thread mocking the “women in music” stereotypes and sexism.

In it is a screenshot of two T-shirts. One is of a man wearing one that says “MALE GUITARIST” and the other of a woman wearing one that says “GUITARIST.” Get it?
Like Facebook, the joke took off on Twitter, with people adding their own clever twist to the trope. Here are 15 of our favorites.

Hope he doesn’t bring his pink guitar.— CAROVAN (@CarovanStudios) October 27, 2020

I think the winner is “As a modern man… ” Every man who says “I support my wife…I help my wife, I am in favour of women… ” You ain’t noble and no we don’t need the chivalry. Mutual respect, acceptance is and should be the norm.
