Hilarious Times People Used Words They Didn’t Understand (10 Tweets)

Hilarious miscommunications are always comedy fodder, but this story from Twitter user @daynamcalpine_ seems more traumatizing. She did manage to create a pretty great Twitter thread by sharing how a man she went on one date with has thought for years that she has a fetish for getting sexy with dead people. Yup, you didn’t misunderstand that.

“Went on a date with a guy years ago and told him i might have narcolepsy to which he look at me weirdly, changed the subject and he never called me back – years later he asked if i still fancied dead people and it turns out he thought i meant necrophilia,” she wrote.

In case you’re confused, too, narcolepsy is when people get tired or fall asleep in an abnormal way, sometimes in the middle of doing other things. Quite different from being sexually attracted to corpses, and this was her finding out that someone had been telling people she has the latter “condition.”

She joked in another tweet that the man said, “‘Oh man I’m so sorry I’ve been the winner of the worst date ever story for years bc I thought you were a corpse shagger.'”

It turns out being mistaken for a necrophile is a surprisingly common problem, as the replies showed. There were lots of other very funny misunderstandings that seem much less reputation ruining as well:
