Photographer Olivia Locher loves breaking the rules. She literally took photos of models doing so.
In her exhibit “I Fought The Law,” the artist found America’s silliest laws (actual rules written down, believe it or not) and purposefully broke them. Personally, I find it refreshing. Every artist wants to be on the cutting edge, but they forget that the world isn’t exactly “normal.”
Doing something simple when the world is a complicated mess is cool and funny. I love this project, and I hope you will too.
Each photo comes with a description of the law that was broken. Some states, obviously, are weirder than others.
Here is the photographic evidence of Olivia Locher breaking the dumbest laws America has to offer:
1. In Alabama, it is illegal to have an ice cream cone in your back pocket at all times.
2. In Arkansas, it’s illegal to kill or preserve any living creature.
3. In California, nobody is allowed to ride a bicycle in a swimming pool.
4. In Colorado, it’s illegal to have weeds in your yard.
5. In Connecticut, pickles must bounce to officially be considered pickles.
6. In Delaware, it’s illegal to consume perfume.
7. In Georgia, picnics are prohibited in graveyards.
8. In Hawaii, coins are not allowed to be placed in one’s ears.
9. In Illinois, a hat pin is considered a concealed weapon.
10. In Kansas, it’s illegal to serve wine in teacups.
11. In Kentucky, it’s illegal to lick a toad.
12. In Louisiana, it’s illegal to gargle in public.
13. In Maine, it’s illegal to mail prescription drugs unless you’re a licensed pharmacist.
14. In Maryland, hammering a nail into a tree is punishable by a fifty-dollar fine.
15. In Michigan, it’s illegal to paint sparrows to sell them as parakeets.
