Conservatives have really latched on to the idea of an “antifa” organization, because it gives them something to explicitly fight against instead of just saying they hate anyone who isn’t white and rich. What is antifa? Well, it’s short for “anti-fascist,” and not to get too political, but being against fascism is good in my book! The only problem is Donald Trump is the president and he doesn’t necessarily feel the same way. He has latched on to “Antifa” as representative of the entire Left, meaning being Antifa has sort of turned into being anti-Trump, meaning a surge in Antifa memes.
The average person probably wasn’t super aware of Antifa as descriptor until Trump tweeted that Antifa would be considered a terrorist organization. The dark side of this announcement is that he is probably hoping to make anyone who stands against him liable for terrorism, which is pretty scary. The bright side is that the idea of Antifa being an organization is delightfully absurd. There’s no Antifa organization, no meetings, no dues, no membership. You’re either for or against fascism. That’s it.
This has given rise to many hilarious Antifa memes about the “organization” and their Supreme Leader. We gotta enjoy the absurd in this mess, and a duck named Jason leading us all to liberation is the perfect symbol of the movement.
