With coronavirus memes dominating all the headlines people need simple distractions more than ever before. So what better way to avoid thinking about the global pandemic than to consume some viral (but totally safe) memes?
The latest image to be launched from obscurity to fame is of a man and a woman at a baseball game in which the man appears to be animatedly explaining something to his somewhat bored-looking companion. After being posted by Twitter user @KeefLynch with the prompt “What is he saying to her?” it quickly drew a number of suggestions.

Memes are ruled by some strange alchemy. Nobody knows exactly why one image becomes a meme while a slightly different one remains in obscurity. There was just something about the bro and his girl’s expressions, his wraparound sunglasses and that proprietary hand on her neck that just conveyed a very specific situation that people recognized. That of—not just mansplaining—but brosplaining. And with that, the Bro Explaining meme was born.
