While the acid-tongued users of social media will target anyone, there’s no one the internet loves to mock more than its own creators.
So despite creating the very platforms on which people do their joking, tech titans like Elon Musk, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey are regularly roasted for their awkward attempts at wielding more power and wealth than any human should. And rightly so. No public appearance any of these three has every made has instilled an atom of confidence in their abilities to act as masters of our shared online universe.
When Zuckerberg and Dorsey appeared remotely before a Senate committee on Tuesday the side-by-side image of the bearded, hobo-yogic Dorsey and the preternaturally smooth and Vulcan-like Zuckerberg sent the internet into a meme-churning frenzy.
Aesthetically, it was a study in contrasts that sent the collective imagination spinning.
