A meme recently began floating around Instagram that contrasts “Me at 29” with “My parents at 29” and draws humor from the very different priorities and lifestyles of the two generations.
While our parents’ lives at 29 were much more traditional, many 29-year-olds today are still figuring out their place in the world, fun-hogging as much as possible, and aren’t really sure where their lives are going or what their goals in life should be.
Of course the meme doesn’t wade into the many practical reasons why young people today hit the traditional milestones of adulthood later than their predecessors or not at all, like recessions, student debt, changing social norms etc. but what do you want? It’s just a dang meme!
