Michael Jordan’s Reaction To His Own Documentary Has Become The New Jordan Meme

The docuseries The Last Dance covers the extraordinary life and career of Michael Jordan, and unlike many biographical documentaries, the director checks in with Jordan and gets his responses to the facts of his life.

In 1991, the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons were up against one another in the Eastern Conference finals. The scandal of the time was when the Pistons’ Isiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer walked off the court with time on the clock, refusing to congratulate their opponents. A lot of things sports stars do get a pass, but apparently bad sportsmanship is out of bounds.

Director Jason Hehir interviewed Thomas about the moment and then allowed Jordan to watch his explanation on an iPad. His face taking in the footage is pretty hilarious. Afterward, he looks up and says he doesn’t believe a word of it.

“I know it’s all bullsh—t,” Jordan says. “Whatever he says now, you know wasn’t his true actions then. He has time left to think about it, or the reaction of the public that’s kind of changed his perspective. You can show me anything you want; there’s no way you can convince me he wasn’t an a**hole.” And thus was born The Last Dance Michael Jordan meme.

Former NBA player Dwyane Wade, who also played for the Bulls from 2016-2017, shared a snapshot of Jordan’s face during his iPad viewing, according to the Daily Dot. In addition to basketball, Jordan is the MVP of memes, and Wade recognized a good opportunity:

Once Dwyane Wade’s “MeMe” was offered up, Twitter ran with it. While 2020 hasn’t been a generous year so far, at least we’re still rich in Michael Jordan “Last Dance” memes.
