Nothing like a TikTok challenge that isn’t teens dancing or someone getting punched in the throat or something. This new egg and baby challenge is actually sweet and endearing and gives me hope for the future. Who knew?
The trend was started by user @cassandranguyen981, who posted a video of her toddler holding an egg and tenderly handling it.
“So they say if you give a baby and egg, they’ll be gentle with it,” she says. “They’re not lying.”
Then she coos a bit to her baby who is rubbing the unbroken egg on their face, in an extremely gentle manner.

People starting using her sound and testing their own babies to see how cute and gentle they would be with a raw egg. This is a real test of faith, because though a baby can’t through with much accuracy or as much force as an adult, they can certainly smash and egg somewhere really destructive. Or at least inconvenient.
But most of them seemed to know how fragile the egg was as soon as they got their little mitts on it. Baby after baby handles their eggs with tender care:

Of course, these are short videos. How long before the baby was overtaken by the extremely human impulse to destroy delicate things? It might be age-dependent—this little lad who doesn’t quite have his sea legs didn’t last long:
