Talking about sex may be less taboo in many cultures now than it was even 50 or so years ago, but many of us grew up with horribly inadequate sex ed, classmates who exaggerated or made things up, and information about sex that was garnered almost exclusively through movies or, perhaps, porn.
In other words: nobody had a clue what to actually expect.
But now we have the internet, making it easier than ever for people to swap stories and either feel a little more prepared for that first encounter or learn that the things that took them by surprise when it happened are very likely experiences that other people had during their first times, as well.
Redditors are coming clean about those surprising moments or realizations from first encounters; here are some of the most relatable ones, and some of the strangest:
