O, Canada! Canada might be our polite neighbor to the north, but how much do you really know about them? Leaf on the flag, mounted police, cold weather? Anything else?
Redditor u/CaptinDerpII wanted to know what people thought of off the top of their heads when they considered the northernmost North American so they asked:
“What comes to mind when you think of Canada?”
While you probably think of some of the same things, there are some surprises on the list too.
1. Frozen maple syrup
The thing where you boil maple syrup and put it on packed snow to make a lollipop.
2. O, Canada!
The flag, huge stretches of forest, canyons, bears, maple syrup.
3. Classic Canadian
Maple Leaf.
4. Comedy
Comedy (SCTV, Kids in the Hall, Corner Gas, Trailer Park Boys, Schitt’s Creek, Letterkenny).
5. Nice guys
One of my friends. He’s a nice guy and my only friend who’s Canadian.
6. Banff
Banff National Park. I heard it’s one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world and I hope to visit it one day.
7. Hockey
Crazy hockey players beating each other up is pretty much Canada’s sports scene.
8. Moose
A moose drinking maple syrup saying “Sorry, eh?” with a beautiful landscape in the background.
9. Hey that’s our thing!
Insane housing prices
cries in Vancouver.
10. Tim Horton’s
My Canadian co-worker who absolutely loathed the stereotype that all Canadians love Tim Horton’s — but who would also give co-workers large wads of cash to buy him as many bags of coffee as they could carry any time they traveled near a Tim Horton’s.
11. Canada geese
Geese that continually choose violence.
12. “Blame Canada!” from South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut
“Blame Canada!” Fun fact: That song from South Park was nominated for Oscars for the best original song category.

Canadians really do apologize a lot. I was visiting Vancouver right before COVID and a Canadian apologized to me for the weather being colder than usual.
14. The Great White North
The color white.
15. Robin Sparkles from How I Met Your Mother
LET’S GO TO THE MALL! TODAY!
16. Poutine
Chips, cheese and gravy, my mate made me try it. Putine or something?
Poutine. An absolute gift from the gods.
17. You got us there
Not having the fear that if I’m broke I’ll die from an infection.
