Couple Decides To Have Wedding In Sign Language, Sign-Impaired Mother Freaks Out

Imagine if your mother insisted you hold your wedding in a language you didn’t speak. Imagine if she wanted your wedding to be in a language you couldn’t hear. That would be completely unhinged, right?

Someone on Reddit shared that she was born deaf, but that her mother had given her cochlear implants and tried to make her live a hearing life. She went on to marry a deaf man and upset her mother by planning to hold the wedding ceremony in sign language, leaving her confused if she was making the right decision.

It’s important to know that many deaf people are against cochlear implants and deaf people who get them frequently don’t feel like they fit in with hearing people or the deaf community. The mother who is trying to force her into the hearing community, well, sucks. She also had a deaf child and didn’t bother to learn a lick of sign language.

Many Redditors responded to the post, saying she was in the right to have the ceremony in sign language.
