People Got Big Mad Over A Cosmo Article Recommending Women Cheat On Their Partners

We all know Cosmopolitan magazine might not lead the way for progressive reporting, however, it at least looked like they wanted to try.

About five years ago, Cosmopolitan began utilizing its print and digital platforms to report on topics ranging from politics, world affairs, social justice, and more. It looked like the magazine was moving away from the caricature women’s magazines it inspired in movies like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and 13 Going on 30.

Joke’s on us!

The magazine published an article titled “I’ve Cheated on Every Boyfriend I’ve Ever Had, and I Don’t Regret It.”

Oh boy, our narcissism red flags are already up. And up HIGH.

Let’s dig into this little bad-take mine.

The author talks about having an aversion to sex with her boyfriend as the relationship went on.

It happens, the honeymoon phase doesn’t last forever.

“I was 21. So when I started feeling an aversion to having sex with my boyfriend, I thought, These are my horniest years. Something must be wrong with me. I considered seeing a therapist to try and fix myself,” the author writes. “It hadn’t yet occurred to me that maybe I didn’t want to have sex with my boyfriend because of who he was. The way he kept track of the days since we’d last had sex felt more like a threat than a concern.”

OK, then break up!

Instead, she details the first time she cheated — with a mutual friend.

Eeek.

Then shares she has cheated on all three of her serious boyfriends.

“I’m not completely morally bankrupt, and I feel bad for lying…even if the lie only lived for a few days or weeks until I broke up with each guy,” she writes. “But I don’t regret each instance of cheating. Not really. Because although they were all very different, each experience taught me crucial things about myself and my sexuality in my early 20s.”

OK, let’s pause for just a minute because we need to make one thing clear: It is entirely possible to learn about yourself and explore your sexuality WITHOUT CAUSING ANOTHER PERSON HARM.

As you would expect, the Cosmopolitan article didn’t go over well.

While the Cosmo article is locked under a paywall, you can view it through a repurposed Yahoo post.
