TikToker Refuses To Pay 11 Cents For A Bag After Spending $3,200 At Best Buy

A disgruntled Best Buy customer took to TikTok after refusing to pay 11 cents for a plastic bag at checkout after spending $3,200.

Matt Plapp, the CEO of restaurant marketing site America’s Best Restaurants, uploaded the video of him leaving the Best Buy store with presumably his sons, all carrying an armful of electronics which apparently cost them a total of $3,200.

The video however wasn’t to boast about the purchases, but instead was to complain about the store charging 11 cents for a bag.

“So this is us carrying $3,200 in gear … out of Best Buy. No bag, because after we pay, we were told it’s 11 cents for a bag,” he says in the now-viral video.

“What are you doing to give your customers a less than stellar experience?” Matt added in the caption.

In an email to the New York Post, Plapp explained he wasn’t upset that the bags cost money, he was more upset that it wasn’t mentioned until an inconvenient time.

“I have zero issues with them charging for bags,” he wrote. “I pay for bags at businesses all the time. My point was that it wasn’t mentioned until after we had already paid for the five items, which at that point I’m not pulling money out of my pocket to buy an 11-cent bag.”

He continued by adding, “The second point is when someone spends $3,200 on five items, the cashier handing them a bag regardless should be part of their business practice.”

Even though Plapp clarifies in the comments that he lives in Kentucky where there are no restrictions for plastic bag use, many states in the U.S. do this in order to reduce dependency on single-use plastics.

Those states are California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington.

This is the whole point of the fee, as many viewers pointed out in the comments. Here’s what viewers had to say:
