Dorm life can be hard but this TikToker’s experience might take the cake.
Samantha (@sosasammy28) posted a video of an unpleasant surprise she got after returning from Thanksgiving break (scroll to the end to watch the full video).
The diabetic discovered that her insulin had been ruined — all because someone unplugged her refrigerator.
She wrote: “Me when my fridge gets unplugged during dorm checks over thanksgiving break after I wrote ‘insulin inside please don’t unplug’ on the fridge.”
Seriously, how hard is it just to leave something plugged in?
She captioned the video “love the warm unrefrigerated insulin I came back to ❤️ on a serious note this is not ok.”
Now if you’re wondering, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration recommends “that insulin be stored in a refrigerator at approximately 36°F to 46°F.”
They add that “Insulin products contained in vials or cartridges supplied by the manufacturers (opened or unopened) may be left unrefrigerated at a temperature between 59°F and 86°F for up to 28 days and continue to work.”
They also said that insulin loses some effectiveness when exposed to extreme temperatures.
So yeah, not cool to unplug someone’s fridge that contains vital medication.
Commenters were also furious.
In a follow-up video, Samantha said that she had 27 vials of insulin in her fridge. And apparently, her doctor told her to throw away all of her insulin after a month.
Here’s the video.
