Dating can be the worst. Sometimes there’s no chemistry, sometimes the other person is creepy, and sometimes there are guys who demand booty after paying for dinner.
That was the case with TikToker Talisa (@talisa0913), who posted a video of an incredibly cringey first date (scroll to the end to watch the full video).
As the dinner was wrapping up, Talisa offered to pay her half of the bill. But her date replied that he’d take care of it.
Then he asked if he could walk her up to her room.
She politely declined. And then he got upset, saying, “You just wanted a free meal.”
Talisa repeated her offer to pay and this time, realizing that he wasn’t going to get any, he told her to “pay for your own bill.”
It was a dick move, to be sure. She ended the video by calling him an asshole, which was an understatement.
She captioned the video “Dating in 2022 be like… #sotransactional.”
It went viral, with more than 13 million views. And the commenters were on Talisa’s side.
Others felt like, even though it was awkward, she was lucky.
And this commenter had great advice.
Emma Beckett, from the University of Warwick in the UK, blamed both the patriarchy and capitalism for this kind of behavior.
She told The Huffington Post, “Boys and men are surrounded by influences that tell them they have to act and behave in certain ways in order to ‘be men.’ This not only puts men under pressure to act in a certain way, but it also gives many men an excuse to behave in ways they feel entitled to behave in.”
But also, maybe just don’t be a dick and treat people with respect. Anyway, here’s the video.
