There are certain things you expect when dining in at a restaurant. I’d assume that plates, cups, and utensils are near the top of that list. Apparently, that’s not always the case, according to one TikToker.
In the now-viral video, TikToker Kate alleges she wasn’t given any silverware with her meal at Chili’s.
In the text overlay of the video she writes, “When you ask your waiter for silverware and they respond with ‘uh I’m not sure where it is we’re running low’ and then walks off.”
Later in the comments, she added, “It’s okay we will just [dig] in with our fingers – nothing can stop us.”
Viewers who presumably have experience working in restaurants claim this isn’t all that uncommon.
“As a server…unfortunately it really be like that sometimes,” one viewer wrote.
“Me a line worker grabbing literally steaming utensils from the dishwasher because idk where they keep non-steaming utensils LOL,” another said.
“Lmao it really be like that,” said another. “Last night I was rolling silverware in the back as I went it was so busy and short-staffed.”
However, many explained how this issue can be resolved.
“In the chance we are out of silverware and it’s washing I always get to-go utensils for customers in the meantime,” one viewer said.
“Im a host and we’re suppose 2 have it, but it we’re running low, i try to let servers know,” another added. “There’s always plastic silverware.”
Others provided their own theories for how this could’ve happened.
“I’ve learned working in restaurants the silverware is either taken or thrown away on accident and no one notices until its too late,” one commenter said.
“I swear this happens all the time and somehow we are always buying new silverware,” another detailed.
