A restaurant worker took to TikTok to share a rather humbling and embarrassing story about a customer who requested all of their change back, as seen in a viral TikTok video posted by server Maggie.
In the text overlay of the video, Maggie explains. According to her, the customer’s bill was $21, and they were given $40 in change.
“Without thinking, I said, ‘Do you need change?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, you’re not getting a $19 tip?’” the text reads.
“It was one of the most embarrassing times I’ve ever felt. Why is that so embarrassing idk but it is. I just ask, ‘Do you need change’ as a habit I hate.”
Fellow servers and restaurant employees shared advice on how to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.
