Customer Doesn’t Pay Their Bill, Server Destroys Customer’s Glasses Out Of Rage

TikTok has become a popular place for restaurant workers to vent about the b.s.  they have to put up with on a daily basis. Servers, in particular, have a ton of stories about customers who don’t tip but sometimes they go even further and completely walk out on their tab.

In this now-viral TikTok shared by @jessicah, a server had a message for a customer who dined and dashed.

Here’s What She Had To Say:

“To the girls who ran out and didn’t pay their tab, you left your glasses b—h,”

The camera then pans down to show her stomping on the glasses. Shattering the lenses and snapping them in half.

The video is captioned, “Hope those were $125 dollars.”

Of course, I don’t encourage people to damage other people’s property, but in this particular case, it was definitely satisfying. According to the comment section, I’m not alone in that opinion.

Others applauded Jessica for her handling of the situation and some even replied with jokes.

“I guess she didn’t…. see … that one coming,” one viewer joked.

Another said, “Daphne when Velma owes her money,” joking about how Velma is always losing her glasses.

There were also some viewers who criticized Jessica, saying they think she could’ve reacted to the situation differently.

In response, she explained how the video was old, and that she no longer works at the restaurant.

In A Follow-Up Video She Says:

“I do not work at that establishment anymore nor would I ever post that kind of a video while working somewhere”

She continued, explaining that the glasses were “fashion plastic trend frames” and not prescription glasses.

She says that she broke the glasses because the tab they walked out on came out of her paycheck.

“I’m literally a minimum wage worker trying to make my rent.”

The video resulted in a discussion about the legality of holding waitstaff financially accountable for customers who dine and dash. People note that it’s illegal for employers to take money from servers to make up for losses.

However, under federal wage-and-hour law, “a restaurant can require an employee to pay the loss from an unpaid bill if it does not cause their wages to dip below the federal minimum wage, which is $7.25 an hour for non-exempt employees.”

There are a few states such as New York and California that have gone against federal law and prohibited employers from deducting from employees’ paychecks for cash shortages or other business losses. Unfortunately, Jessica did not live in an eligible state.

So if you’re thinking about walking out on your tab anytime soon, or ever. Don’t!
