For as long as people have been dating there’s been this question: Who should pay?
TikTokker @jacklyn.fit waded into this ancient debate with a video titled: “I prefer being single bc y’all r embarrassing.” (Scroll to the end for the full video.)
Ok, we’ll bite: Why are people embarrassing?
Here’s how she explains it: “You know what really cracks me up? Just occasionally going on Venmo and seeing a girl Venmo her boyfriend like, ‘Cheesesteak.’”
She went on to rip girls like this, saying: “Like, your boyfriend really couldn’t pay for your fucking cheesesteak? I’m fucking embarrassed for you.”
Ouch.
Now don’t get us wrong, it’s fine if one person wants to pay for lunch or dinner.
But, then again, times are tough. And with inflation, we can understand why some couples might split the tab. Especially if one person makes a lot more money than the other.
Lots of commenters weighed in with their thoughts.

And some raised the obvious question: Why do you even care?
At the end of the day, it’s up to each couple to decide who pays. But hey, if you can get someone to buy all your cheesesteaks, more power to you.
