Everyone loves a pizza party at school, right? Those once-in-a-blue-moon days when the class does something good and the teacher dishes out the ultimate prize.
What could be better?
Well, teacher Kathryn Shannon (@neurotic.hippie) got a rude awakening when she tried to reward her class for good behavior.
Shannon spent more than $100 on pizza, candy, and cookies for her students. She even let them watch a movie.
And their reaction was … pretty terrible (scroll to the end to watch the full video).
In her video, Shannon recalls how the students weren’t just unappreciative, but downright rude.
They got mad when they only got one slice of pizza and one cookie each (because teachers aren’t millionaires). Oh, and they wanted to watch an R-rated movie, even though that wasn’t going to happen in school.
As she was cleaning up after the ungrateful kids, she heard “whispers of how boring it was and how other teachers have done it better.”
Shannon ended up apologizing “that it wasn’t fun enough for them.”
And then the class laughed at her for being upset.
She shrugged and said: “I don’t know. Can’t impress anybody these days, right?”
Apparently not. Seriously, who turns up their nose at free pizza?
Commenters on the video were stunned that kids weren’t more appreciative.
Some current (and former) teachers weighed in with their own experiences.
All and all, it was a bummer to hear that these kids didn’t show better manners. And it’s a good reminder that teachers have thankless jobs.
Here’s the video where Shannon tells her story.
