This Wedding Couple’s Penny-Pinching Rubbed A Lot Of People The Wrong Way

Weddings should be a celebratory occasion — two people join in matrimony while their family and friends all come together for a giant party.

But who should pay for that?

TikToker Kelli (@kellikeylimepie) raised that question after she showed off a wedding invitation from a couple who asked guests to … pay for their own meal.

Kinda cheap, right? Sure times are tough, with inflation and all, but come on.

In fairness, weddings can be really expensive. According to a survey conducted by The Knot, the average cost of a wedding in 2021 was $28,000 (including the ceremony and reception).

Which is a huge expense for most couples. But is asking people to pay for their meals too much?

Lots of commenters thought so.

It’s true that lots of weddings have a cash bar where guests buy their own drinks (and we assume this couple didn’t spring for booze, either).

But think about it: You take time out of your day to go to someone’s wedding — maybe even travel long distances — and then you have to pay for food, too?

This commenter put it the best.

Here’s the video. Was the couple out of pocket for this?
