If you’ve ever worked in retail, or any minimum wage job in general, you probably know that “breaks” are hard to come by. Furthermore, when you do get a break, it doesn’t even seem like one since it’s usually a ridiculously short amount of time before you’re being summoned back to your duties. One TikToker by the name of Roscoe (@roscoe_miloo), depicted this feeling perfectly in a viral TikTok.
He captioned the video, “Walmart 15 min breaks be like…” and posted the 5 second clip of him sitting down, opening his bag of chips, and immediately being interrupted by his alarm to get back to work.
His video got nearly 1 million views, 80k likes, and over 500 comments. Roscoe captioned it “Y’all know how it go fr😭😭🤦🏽♂️.”
Current and former Walmart employees that saw the video had a lot to say.
Many commented that Roscoe was crazy for not taking more breaks, as Walmart supervisors are often too distracted to tell everyone to constantly get back to work. Some mentioned how they used “laps around the store” as break replacements. Others said they simply didn’t care, and they were going to take a break for as long as they wanted.
Whether Roscoe was over exaggerating or not, all the seasoned guest services workers know those breaks determine whether we’re going to make it through the day without snapping- and honestly, sometimes they really do feel about 5 seconds long.
