A video posted to the popular social media platform, “TikTok” recently went viral after a married woman commented on her mother and brother making plates of food for her husband. Laughing hysterically, she claimed that it was ridiculous for them to be pampering her grown adult partner, but both her mother and brother disagreed.
The video ensued a two-sided conversation. Some viewers said it was an excellent practice and showed selfless love, while others commented that the poster was his partner, not his “personal assistant.” When it comes down to it, OP’s mother was just trying to carry out a tradition she had practiced with her own husband of 34 years. Check out the two videos below, along with some of the top comments!
The TikTok posted by liliannawilde received 1.4 million views and over 163k likes!
Liliana starts the video by explaining the situation,
My mom is in town visiting, and my husband just got home from work and this lady bops up off the couch soon as he gets in the door to go run over and make him a little plate of food. Cause I wasn’t making him a plate. Like, why, why would I plate, why would you plate his food for him?
Her mom, laughing replies, “Because I’m a different kind of woman!” In a text overlay, Lilianna writes, “No wonder she’s been married 34 years LOL.”
It’s no coincidence that the majority of the comment section backing Liliana’s mother are men. Most of the women commenting agreed that OP had no obligation to do this for her husband, especially after a long day at work. The act is considered selfless though, so it wouldn’t be unspeakable to compromise and do this gesture every once in a while.
A second video showed her brother also going above and beyond to cater to her husband.
In a follow-up clip, it appears it wasn’t just the TikToker’s mom doing the most to make sure her husband was fed. Her brother fixed him some leftovers for the following day as well. In the second video she says,
Part 2 I can’t f–king believe this, my brother made extra food and is putting it in a Tupperware so that my husband can have lunch tomorrow. Like, this poor man has been dealing with me as a wife when he could’ve had my mom and my brother taking care of him.
The videos set off a debate in the comment section, with some people saying Liliana was right for wondering why she would need to plate her fully capable husband’s food, and some saying it was good etiquette and common courtesy to do this simple act of kindness.
What are your thoughts on this debate? Was her family trying too hard and as a result making Liliana look bad? Or were her mother and brother valid for what they were doing? Let us know!
