Flight Attendant Explains What Happens To Your Body If You Die On Board

A flight attendant on TikTok has gone viral with her series covering her time flying the friendly skies.

25-year-old Sheena does not shy away from the darker side of her job, and in an interview with Insider, she elaborated on her TikTok about what happens to you if you die mid-flight. Not a plane crash—just you.

“If they have a heart attack and die, and there is nothing we can do about it, and we can’t start CPR, we are just going to wait until we get to our final destination,” she says. “If there’s room, they might move the body to the last row of the plane, but otherwise you just get a blanket thrown over you.”

There is apparently an urban myth that bodies get put in the lavatory, but Sheena explains they need to remain locked in. A loose body in a toilet on an airplane is a recipe for disaster.

Sheena has worked for three different airlines, so she knows that this isn’t just a procedure for one company. When the plane lands, the other passengers leave and medical personnel come on to make sure the body is really dead.

There is medical equipment on board, but unless there’s a way they can actually intervene, it’s not their job to be the coroners.

They really do ask if there’s a medical professional on board, Sheena told Insider, but if there isn’t one, they have a link to a “doctors for airlines” group who can walk them through what to do.

“We have enough medical equipment on the plane to do surgery,” she said.

Can you imagine flying to Vegas and getting a tracheotomy from the flight attendant in hour two? Sheena says that there won’t necessarily be a diversion of a flight if there is a dead body on board. After all, there’s nothing to be done now, you might as well get everyone where they’re trying to go.
