Thanksgiving is a time when people gather with family to enjoy a big meal.
But that’s not the case for everyone. Some might not have families, or they may just prefer their own company during the holiday.
Whatever the reason, TikToker and Starbucks employee @official.shawn_ sparked a debate after posting a video mocking people who came to the coffee shop during Thanksgiving (skip to the end for the full video).
In the video, he wrote: “WHY ARE PEOPLE HERE, go be with your family, it’s thanks giving why are you ordering 7 bacon goudas.”
The video went viral and lots of commenters weren’t in agreement. After all, people have lots of reasons why they might want to spend Thanksgiving by themselves. Maybe they just didn’t want to cook?
Others were shocked that Starbucks was even open during the holiday.
Other Starbucks workers shared their own Thanksgiving stories of annoying customers who made their lives harder.
At any rate, who you spend Thanksgiving with is a personal choice. A few years ago, NPR asked its listeners why they preferred to fly solo on Turkey Day.
One person responded: “Initially, this may seem depressing. But as someone who has spent a Thanksgiving alone and enjoyed it, I have to say that sometimes spending time with the family is overrated.”
