Woman Claims Her Ex Secretly Put An AirTag On Their Daughter

A TikTok user shared a video claiming that her ex, during a weekend when he had custody, placed an AirTag on the child.

The incident has sparked debate among commenters who are questioning whether the move was for the child’s safety or for creepily tracking the mother and daughter from a distance.

The video was shared by TikTok user Ikiera, who posted it on Thursday. It has since received over 1.1 million views as of Sunday. In the caption, Ikiera expressed her confusion and uncertainty, asking for help, and the post has received many comments with different opinions.

Ikiera sets the scene by stating, “I received a notification that an AirTag was nearby.” She started searching for the unknown AirTag after seeing the notification and hearing a noise.

She then asks in the video, “Do you know where I found it?” The video then shows her removing an AirTag from her daughter’s pink jacket, leaving the question of how it got there unanswered.

Ikiera explains, “My daughter’s father and I have a split custody agreement, he has her on the weekends, and apparently he decided to put an AirTag in her jacket.”

Ikiera then poses the question, “Is this normal behavior? Is this something a normal person would do?” She ends the video by questioning whether or not it is legal.

Apple has a support page dedicated to AirTag, and on it, the company states that AirTags should not be used to track people or property that does not belong to the user. The use of these products to track people without their consent is considered a crime in many countries and regions worldwide. If an AirTag, a set of AirPods, or a device connected to the “Find My” network is found to be used for unlawful tracking of a person, law enforcement authorities can request information from Apple to assist in their investigation.

On that support page, Apple also provides instructions on how to prevent unwanted tracking. However, as some commenters pointed out, Ikiera’s discovery of the AirTag now gives her options for the next steps she should take.

Viewers had mixed opinions on figuring out the motives of her ex and predicting her future actions.

However, some believed the purpose was to monitor the mother’s whereabouts rather than the child’s or to see where the mother was taking the child.

Many viewers jokingly suggested some form of retaliation.

In a subsequent video, the TikToker revealed how she approached her ex about the situation.

“He said that he was collecting addresses that I take my daughter to,” she states in the video. Many viewers speculated he may be trying to gather evidence to gain full custody of their daughter.

Ikiera provided more information in the comments that she and her ex separated two years ago and he has been trying to acquire full custody of their daughter since then.
