Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about Elon Musk buying Twitter. And the first few weeks of his tenure as the boss have been … eventful, to say the least.
There have been widespread layoffs and most of the previous leadership has departed as Musk has asserted control of the bird app.
Well, add one more ex-employee to that list. Specifically, we’re talking about an engineer at Twitter who got into a back-and-forth exchange with Musk and learned the hard way: Don’t cross the boss. At least in public.
It all started with this tweet from Musk, apologizing for Twitter being slow in some countries.
This led to the aforementioned engineer at Twitter responding with this public correction.
Musk responded and the two got into it (we’re not smart enough to understand the details of what they’re talking about, but if you are, more power to you).
And then the axe fell. In a response to another user, Musk confirmed that he’d sacked the engineer.
The engineer then responded with a salute emoji and a screenshot of their now-locked work laptop.
This of course led to a million reactions on Twitter.
It also made the rounds on the Antiwork subreddit, where (of course) even more people weighed in.
And u/BisquickNinja even shared their own (alleged) experiences of interviewing for a job with another Musk-owned company.
So there you go. Twitter isn’t just a place to share jokes and memes — it’s also a place to pop off to your boss! (Disclaimer: This may be hazardous to your employment.)
