Some truly wild stories pop in Reddit’s “Am I The A-hole” forum with relative frequency, but one posted recently has people floored with how ridiculous the other party is being.
A user with a throwaway account started off by telling readers that she and her husband have been together for three years but only recently got married.
“So here’s a thing, I used to use pads for my periods but recently was able to start using tampons (I have medical problems),” she wrote. “Tampons work 10x better for me, especially when I’m outside…say like at work or traveling.”
But her husband, Ryan, apparently has issues with her using tampons, though he won’t say why just that “he doesn’t feel comfortable with me using them.”
“I didn’t think it was a big deal at first since he said he hates a lot of stuff that I do but ‘puts up’ with it anyway except for this. He asked that I go back to using pads but I made it clear since it’s my body then I get to decide,” she explained.
All of that is already enough to earn Ryan the title of a—hole for trying to tell his wife she can’t properly stop the flow of blood from her body however she best sees fit, but things only got worse.
Ryan threw out a box of her tampons in retaliation for her still using them, so the Redditor decided to buy a new box and simply hide them. Unsurprisingly, that didn’t work out, and when she finally needed them again, she discovered Ryan had thrown those out as well.
“I was tired, and too stressed, I just yelled at him after he admitted to throwing away the whole box,” she said. “He argued that I already knew how he felt about this stuff and yet I decided to still keep it around. I lost it and told him he had no right to do this and told him to get over himself already.”
Ryan guilted his wife by suggesting she needs to take his discomfort into consideration and said she “insulted him and verbally abused him” when he tried to control her. “He also said that if I still insist on using them then I should do it while I’m outside the house,” she added, throwing another confusing twist to this bizarre story.
Ryan won himself no fans over on Reddit, as users reassured the original poster that she had done absolutely nothing wrong and that her husband was acting ridiculous.
There are things you do together as a couple and things that are very much just one person’s decision. Thinking that whether or not to use tampons is anything other than the latter is next level.
Sorry, a—hole!
