The “This You?” Twitter Trend Is Calling Hypocrites Out On Their Dirty Pasts

Everyone’s got an opinion right now, but before you share yours, maybe do a quick rundown of your personal history. Because the Internet will find it real fast.

A new trend has been popping up on Twitter as racists and people who love the idea of a police state come out against protestors. There has been looting and destruction of public property, some of which seems to be instigated by the police themselves, or others hoping to stir up trouble. Ultimately, property is nothing compared to human life and it’s hardly the issue at hand.

The Hills: New Beginnings star Stephanie Pratt seems to think otherwise. She tweeted, “Shoot the looters— using this tragedy as their excuse to rob and burn all of our towns down.”

So, kill people over purses? We see where your priorities are at.

Pratt has since deleted her tweet, though it was captured by screenshots. She likely deleted it because Twitter user @wowiwrite found an old mugshot of a Ms. Stephanie Pratt who was caught shoplifting. They posted it with the simple question, “This you?”

Pratt probably thinks her situation is “different.” A lot of people do. 

Now, asking people “This you?” is a very quick and easy way to expose hypocrites. Not everyone is a hypocrite in exactly the way Pratt is—some are trying to support Black Lives Matter publicly, and are being called out on their private face or their racist past. That includes influencers, brands, and even the NFL, who blackballed Colin Kaepernick after he started peacefully protesting by taking a knee during the National Anthem at sports games.
