In a now-viral TikTok, Sarah Button, a 23-year-old law student from Australia, explained she was detained after being caught by airport security with her dead boyfriend’s ashes hidden in a buttplug urn.
Button explained that security officials got involved just as she was about to board her flight from the United Atab Emirate while wearing the urn in her late boyfriend’s “favorite place”.
In an interview with the New York Post, she said, “They took me and my friend aside without much explanation,” adding she was forced to call her dad from the Australian embassy for help.
In a series of videos, Button explains that she received the sex toy as a gag gift from her boyfriend before he died.
“The intention was initially a joke because he’d spent so much time in there and it was his favorite place,” she said. “Honestly it is the funniest thing he’s ever done, I’ll spend my whole life laughing about it, which really beats crying.”
However, airport security didn’t see the humor in it as they likely thought it was a weapon of some sort.
“I explained what it was but there was a lady working in earshot of that conversation which led to some back and forth between us and the male officials did not like the vulgarity I was using to explain,” Button said.
“An hour later a big official came and had us sign a super long foreign document and said if we went outside of the airport doors we’d go to jail.”
“It was a long day,” she said.
