Don’t get me wrong, emotional support animals are a completely legitimate thing. The comfort and support someone can get for anxiety or depression from them are very beneficial. That being said, they are not the same as trained service dogs.
Service dogs are working animals that know how to assist and even get help if the owner needs it. Classifying the two things in the same category hurts everyone. Here is a great Tumblr thread about it.
