Viral Tumblr Thread Goes Off On Double Standard Between Violence Against Men And Women In Movies

While Tumblr is perhaps a “shadow of its former self,” netting a mere ~350 million monthly visitors vs. 1 billion+ prior to 2019, it’s still an active community and one that’s good for more than just memes and funny gifs (though it’s certainly good for those.)

Some of the best Tumblr content, in my humble opinion, is editorial in nature.

Enter a post from 2019 that has resurfaced recently, ripping on the double standards of Hollywood.

Which double standards? I mean, it’s sad we have to be specific because there are so many, but specifically, this post, from Tumblr user bau-liya, who posits that it’s not entirely shocking for men to commit acts of violence against women in TV & film, yet, when women are portrayed being violent to men, the emotional response is supposed to be beyond disturbing.

Jennifer’s Body is a prime example of this double standard, according to one Tumblr user / 20th Century Fox
