Though comic book dorks and women-haters tried their hardest to ruin it, Captain Marvel—Marvel Studios’ first movie with a solo female lead ever—has earned rave reviews from fans and critics alike, pulling in over $153 million domestically and $455 million worldwide during its opening weekend.

The film’s intrinsically feminist scenes and imagery was only compounded by Brie Larson’s behavior during the press tour, where she frequently spoke about the importance of feminism and diversity to her and to her character in the film.

It was difficult not to cry during the (spoiler alert?) montage of Carol Danvers falling throughout her life, battling debasement and humiliated as a result of her gender. What I’m saying is, the movie rules, and girl power forever.
