Ruin My Week
The widespread protests that have followed the killing of George Floyd have given the Black Lives Matter movement new life and have forced America to take a longer, harder look at its own ugly history than it has in decades. The protests show no sign of stopping and changes have started taking place, which has included the removal of numerous monuments to the Confederacy and even NASCAR banning Confederate flags from its races.
This is being celebrated by most, though not all, Americans so when someone on Twitter made the salient point that the Confederacy was actually a very short-lived concept and not some glorious ancient empire people were all too happy to chime in with the many…many things that lasted longer than the confederacy from Star Trek: Voyager to New Coke.
