A recent report out of the U.S. Department of Labor says that both the number of job openings and the number of people quitting their jobs has remained near record highs through the month of February.
Job openings in the country sat around 11.3 million in the second month of the year, compared to 11.4 million in December 2021, and around 4.4 million people left their jobs — most with a new, better job either lined up or in mind. With several million fewer people looking for jobs than there were pre-pandemic, there are now 1.8 job openings for every prospective worker in the nation.
This situation pushes the labor market into the favor of workers, who can now demand higher wages and better benefits from companies desperate to fill positions.
