20 Egregious Times Shameless Bosses Refused Time-Off Requests

The amount of power our workplaces can have over us is pretty horrific. They decide our health coverage, they decide when we work, how often, and we don’t get paid or unpaid leave guaranteed at all. That’s BONKERS. Americans deserve European-style PTO and I sure hope we get it within my lifetime.

Twitter user @PostOpPrincess recently shared that she was denied PTO for her own wedding. The post went viral and people quickly started to share their own PTO stories.

I was pregnant and lost my baby and ended up pregnancy 3 mos later, my boss fired me for getting pregnant and then tried to deny my unemployment. I took her to court and the unemployment judge shamed her stating that working in the medical field she had no shame.

12. Shove it

I was a Director of Nursing. Had my son via c-section 5/27. On 5/28 my administrator phoned to tell me the recent new owners wanted to keep me but they had "cleaned house"~I better be ready for 16 hour days, 7 days a week. Told him I had a healthy baby boy and they could shove it

13. One request every 5 years?!

A coworker was denied time off for his brother’s wedding because he’d gone to his other brother’s wedding the year before and “you only get one special request per 5 years”. The rest of us rearranged so he could have the time. Healthcare is a mess.

14. Get back to work

The morning my youngest brother passed away(suicide) I had to leave work to tell my mum, my manager called me not even 2hours later, to go back to work because they couldn't find cover 😳 I relied with a sick note from my GP. Horrendous

My husband’s boss wanted him to come in after the wedding and do a evening shift. This after knowing about the wedding for months.
He quit.
