Twitter user Emrazz, also known as the Feminist Next Door, took down some “edgy” jokes recently in a viral thread that explained how those “jokes” really are just misogynistic.
“I want to talk about how misogyny is often framed as edgy jokes. I want to talk about how this guy is comparing battered women to dogs in an animal shelter and mocking how traumatized and easy to manipulate they are as a result. I want to talk about why men think this is funny.” she wrote on Twitter while quoting another Twitter user’s crappy “joke”. Emrazz’s tweets quickly went viral with over 11.8k likes in a few days. You can check her out on Twitter and Instagram.
The tweet in question? I refuse to link to it, but here’s a screenshot:
Emrazz goes on: “I want to talk about how the internet is foaming at the mouth for this kind of content. How men dive into the replies to participate like starving sharks diving onto a steak.”
And if you thought she maybe didn’t have MORE examples of men doing this crap, you are wrong and I wish to be that sweetly innocent.
“I want to talk about how tossing out lazy, bottom of the barrel, vitriolic misogyny online is always done in the key of “king willing to say what we’re all thinking,” and that it’s a common part of the discourse among young men, and especially among progressive or leftist men,” she says in the next tweet, showing responses to TallBart.
Emrazz then points out that, “I want to talk about how even the men who know that comparing battered women to dogs is wrong can’t quite bring themselves to say it, and how they’re ostracized and dismissed for the lowest of low effort attempts.”
And she shows a few examples of men not … really able or willing to try to correct this crappy behavior from the “jokester”.
And then the slew of examples of men responding to this guy’s “joke”.
She concludes simply with: “And you wonder why we don’t trust you.”
Yeah.
I’m angry.
Are you?
