Farm Sanctuary is an organization that works to combat factory farming and provide shelter for rescued farm animals.
Founded in 1986, there are Farm Sanctuary locations in New York and California, housing around 1,000 animals combined. Instead of having a turkey on Thanksgiving, Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey Project encourages people to adopt a turkey instead. People can choose to sponsor individual turkeys or an entire flock, and you can contribute to the cause any time – not just for Thanksgiving.
Celebrities like Joaquin Phoenix and Alicia Silverstone — both devoted animal-rights advocates — are some of Farm Sanctuary’s loyal supporters.
A day after Phoenix won an Academy Award for his role in Joker, he rescued a cow and her newborn calf and brought them to Farm Sanctuary.
So you can imagine how upset people were when Demi Lovato took a tour of the organization in October and ate turkey a month later. Lovato posted about her experience on social media, promoting Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey Program.
“I recently visited @farmsanctuary, which is the first animal rescue specifically for farm animals in the U.S. I spent the day with cows, goats, sheep, pigs, donkeys, and turkeys, who were all rescued from cruelty. The highlight of my tour was cuddling with a rescued turkey named Sandy. Not only are these animals cute, but they are forgiving. The animals at @farmsanctuary had to learn to trust humans after what they’d been through, and their strength and resilience is amazing! 💖🦃🐮🐑 Check out adoptaturkey.org or @farmsanctuary’s page for more information! #AdoptATurkey”
Farm Sanctuary also posted about the special visit.
The turkeys were so excited to meet @ddlovato at our California Sanctuary! Thanks for visiting, Demi, we loved having you! 💚

Lovato may have forgotten about the post by the time Thanksgiving rolled around, however, everyone else did not.
I think people dont get the problem or the hypocrisy of this: the main problem isnt Demi eating a turkey, the main problem is she being the public face of a farm sanctuary while hugging a turkey and then proceed to eat a WHOLE TURKEY for thanksgiving!

On Thanksgiving, Lovato posted an image of a turkey in the oven to her social media.
🙁 well…. she for one, did not choose compassion this thanksgiving pic.twitter.com/i5qW50rlV3

And a lot of people noticed the hypocrisy.

Unfortunately, we have yet to hear from Lovato on the controversy.
