1/2 I’ll tell my dad’s – dad was on a firefighting detail in the west (no fire, just resining) and was taking an early morning walk into the low mountains with a couple of his coworkers. A man in sweatpants appears walking a majestic giant white dog,

2/2 travel coffee mug in hand. I bet I don’t have to tell you who it was. (Tom Hanks)
He took the time to profusely shake everyone’s hand and chat with all these firefighters even though I’m sure he’d hoped he wouldn’t run into anyone up there.— Elna ✨❄️ (@elnaalbano) January 7, 2020

A 🇨🇦 medalist we happened upon in a London mall during the 2012 Olympics did this. By odd coincidence, we’d previously made friends with his fiancée on a train. She hailed us and our very shy daughter—gasp—realized who he was!
He asked if he could have a picture with *her*. 🥰— Glo G (@Growsbeak) January 7, 2020

My TH story: When a former high school actor of mine is cast on Broadway in Hanks’ “Lucky Guy,” I get backstage after and meet Tom, who asks me more questions about me than I can ask about him! #solidcitizen #amazinghuman

My Tom Hanks story: April 5, 1990 at MSG playoff game between Islanders & Rangers. I’m sitting w/ friends near center ice and the guys behind us start giving everyone boxes of popcorn. I turn around and it was Tom Hanks and Jon Lovitz! Just talking to us all about hockey! Cool!

I was shocked to receive this personal reply from Tom when I offered him my deceased father’s typewriter for Tom’s typewriter collection. My dad had “smuggled” it out of Germany when he immigrated to the US as a WWII refugee. I will treasure Tom’s letter forever. pic.twitter.com/UFj6mQsCcs

Did a month of stand in work on a film he was making. The man sat next to me, asked me about my life… it was a war movie and my brother was serving at the time. He got out a pen and sent him something. Nicest man.

My Tom Hanks story: Ken’s Kash Store. Oakley, UT. I was about 10 years old. Rode my bicycle to the store nearly every day to grab a collection of jerky, pop and copious amounts of penny candies. This day, I dropped my $10 bill somewhere along the way.

Behind me in line was a tall dude in sunglasses and a hat. He liked to keep a low profile. He paid for all of my stuff and simply said pay it forward. Paid for the person in line behind him, too.
Outside, I asked him “you’re Forrest Gump?”
“Sometimes,” he laughed.

5 years later I got a job at the register at said store. It wasn’t my first week on the job a familiar face walked in.
He came to the counter with coffee, milk, normal grocery stuff.
“No jerky? Penny candies?” I asked.

He recognized me immediately and we had a quick chat. If you’re familiar with the store, you can assume that it was just the two of us.
I paid for his groceries and asked him to pay it forward.

I worked there for about 2 years and Tom, being a local, came in regularly. Each time I was at the register, he’d add a pop or a slab of jerky to his tab and leave it for me.
Still trying to pay it forward.
