Kim Kardashian is known to turn heads for her daring looks on the red carpet. But some fans are concerned her latest ensemble took things too far.
When the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star hit the famous staircase for the 2024 Met Gala, people were flabbergasted by her impossibly small, cinched waist.
While she undoubtedly achieved the coveted hourglass shape she was going for, many people posted tweets expressing concern for her health, wondering how she managed to breathe in the tight-fitting corset.

Kim arrived at the 2024 Met Gala, the world’s most star-studded night in fashion, donning a waist-cinching corset dress.
The metallic floral print kept in lockstep with the evening’s “Garden of Time” theme.

Some X users, however, felt that the grey sweater she threw over her shoulders tarnished the overall aesthetic.
“oh Kim Kardashian why [are] you holding that top please it ruined the whole dress,” said one commenter.
Kardashian explained the last-second choice to Vogue.
“I just ran out and grabbed my boyfriend’s sweater and threw it on and had to get to work. My hair’s all messed up.”
But her sister Khloe Kardashian, who didn’t attend the Gala, praised her dress from the sidelines.
“I am NOT OK!!!!!!!” Khloe posted on her Instagram story alongside a picture of Kim at the event. “Holy smokes Batman.”

How the dress looked aside, most commenters were more concerned for Kim’s health than anything. People cited the ribcage-constricting design of the corset as well as Kim’s labored expression as she made her way past photographers.
“Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala with a snatched waist,” said one commenter on X. “It looks painful though, she can barely move.”
Another added: “What is wrong with these celebrities?! Why!? Did she break her ribs?!”

Others told the critics to back off, arguing that detractors were merely jealous of Kim’s figure.
A third commenter said: “Met Gala 2024: Kim Kardashian’s cinched waist causes confusion == doesnt look uncomfortable or battling to breath ?? so what the hell is the problem ? ? ? JEALOSY ?? PROBABLY !”
But are the comments on Kim’s “unhealthy” fashion statement onto something?
It turns out they are.
Wearing a corset can cause irreparable damage to the body
An article from the Charleston Museum titled “Killer Fashion: the Consequences of Corsetry” highlighted some potential risks that come with wearing a tight-fitting corset.
The article says that while “not usually deadly, wearing a tightly laced corset can be quite harmful to the wearer.”
The article continues: “They can reduce lung capacity, cause shortness of breath and fainting, produce skin irritations, compress the ribs, weaken back and chest muscles and have even been known to cause organ deformity.
“Tight corsetry can also exacerbate lung conditions such as pneumonia, dangerously restrict digestion, cause constipation and can also worsen any existing issues within a woman’s reproductive system.”
