The people who write clues for Jeopardy! are obviously very smart. But are they psychic? Many people are wondering what dark forces the game show staff is in league with after an episode that aired on Tuesday in which one of the questions seems like a direct reference to the current state of global pandemic affairs—even though it was filmed two months ago. Specifically, a clue to which the answer was “What is a pandemic?”
Yale student Nathaniel Miller gets the answer, “From a Greek word for ‘people’ it describes a disease that affects many people at one time.”
Miller offers the question, “What is a pandemic?” in response, which pretty much anyone at this point would be able to do.
The Jeopardy! pandemic question was asked in February, according to the Daily Dot, before the World Health Organization labeled the COVID-19 virus a pandemic, so Miller wasn’t been fed any clues.

Not everyone seemed to realize that the episode was filmed months ago, which is why they’re at home watching and not on screen competing.

Or maybe they objected to the question being aired at all, though watching Miller say the word “pandemic” certainly isn’t making me more aware of what’s happening than literally every other thing in life.

Other people seem to feel that this moment goes to show that the Jeopardy! writers know too much and need to be stopped.
On that note, they have been stopped just like everyone else. Those podiums are way too close together to escape social distancing rules:
#Jeopardy knows too much. They were ready for this pandemic two months before the US even was.

Did anyone else get a lump in their throat when they realized “pandemic” was an answer on #Jeopardy tonight or just me?

Personally, I’m inclined to think that the Jeopardy pandemic clue writers aren’t psychic at all, they were just paying attention. While the episode is reaching us way too late to serve as a warning, in February there was already quite a bit of talk about the novel coronavirus and its takeover of China and consequent infiltration of Europe. Donald Trump, as president, was briefed on the coming plague months before and chose to ignore it. If only the writers of Jeopardy! were in charge, we might have had a chance at containment. They clearly read the news.
